Viking Age shield amulet discovered near Nyborg

By using a metal detector, a small Viking Age shield amulet was recently discovered close to Nyborg, Denmark. The amulet served as a cloth pin. It was made of silver, and measures 3cm in diameter (a little more than an inch).

Miniature sword, spears and shields amulets or jewelry have been found numerous places across Denmark. They are thought to have been common in the Viking Age and likely worn by both men and women.
