Newly published article presented evidence of more Viking activities and indications of longer term stays on the North American continent. Besides the by now well-known confirmed Viking site at L’Anse aux Meadows in Newfoundland, then Viking artifacts have been found at several other locations.
Archeaologists point out that while some items may have come into local Iniut or indian possession through trading or scavenging, then items that have been used in metal working indicate Viking presence.
Given the accounts in the Norse/Icelandic sagas about travel to Helluland (North America) and confirmation of L’Anse aux Meadows site, then it seemed only a matter of time before other sites would be found. And now it seems that the new evidence indeed confirms that Viking travel to the North American continent was more than a one-off or fluke.
