Major late Viking Age coin hoard found in England

A large hoard of late Viking Age coins was in late December 2014 discovered by metal detector in a field in Buckinghamshire. At over 5,000 coins it is one of the biggest historic coin finds in England, and a major find by any standard.

The coins are from the 11th century, and have Canute and Ethelred the Unready on them. The coins have been handed over the British Museum where they are now being examined.
