Viking movies – Few and far between (the good ones)

In my news post of June 6 “Movie ‘Northmen – A Viking Saga’ coming fall 2014” I wrote: “Viking themed movies are few and far between, and GOOD Viking movies even rarer”.  A reader sent me a message (and thank you for that!), in which he challenged this statement.  And admittedly it was a strong gut-feel from having digested any movie with a Viking theme and almost always coming up disappointed.

Therefore, I set out to get a bit of documentation to back the statement, and this resulted in the list below – with RottenTomotoes.com critics and audience like scores.  And I have to admitted it pretty much confirmed my feeling that Viking movies are few and far between and that GOOD Viking movies are hard to come by.  The good news is that The History Channel’s “Vikings” series started out strong and seems to be improving season over season.  And that there are several movie projects in the works – which hopefully have set the production and entertainment values high!
